Tips & Trends in Service-Learning X

“I learned about service-learning in teaching and learned what is not considered as well,” says Dr. Nadiya Parekh. 

On November 11, 2019, faculty members from Sonoma State University joined the Center for Community Engagement to discuss service-learning pedagogy and how to use it in their classrooms. Merith Weisman, the director of Community Engagement and Strategic Initiatives, presented about service-learning pedagogy and trends in academic and civic learning, community relationships, and reflective activities.

“It’s so simple, I finally understand where service-learning fits in the bigger web of community engagement. I kept hearing people use service-learning and community engagement interchangeably, and was somewhat confused - now I get it! This workshop really helped develop my language capacity of how to describe and explain what service-learning is/isn't,” says an inspired faculty member.

This workshop happens every year, so keep an eye out for next fall.
