Discovery Day XX was an incredible day for the high school students of Roseland Collegiate Prep. Visiting SSU was not only a huge inspiration to most, but the time they spent here on campus enticed them to ponder what their future may hold in terms of education.
“All these students are able to take this time to focus on what they want their futures to look like.
“I love coming to the library because I love books! Something that could benefit my future and probably my favorite part was the Writing Center.
Service-learning makes me feel inspired to continue to give back to the community and work to benefit the needs of others.
Service-learning is when a person, or group of people, take the knowledge and educational goals that they have been learning about in class and apply it to some sort of community service or community engagement.
Dr. Jessica Hobson's PSY 302 service-learners have once again participated in Discovery Day, an event that gives Roseland University Prep students information about applying to college and what it's like to be a student.
"I want to keep helping people and keep making relationships... be active, and keep helping the community." This is one of many positive takeaways Sonoma State students had after hanging out with Roseland Collegiate Prep (RCP) freshman for the day.
Every fall semester, Discovery Day provides younger students with their first exposure to higher education while providing college service-learners with an engaging opportunity for leadership and service.

"Discovery Day was a huge success and I really enjoyed the whole day...The scavenger hunt allowed me to practice the leadership skills learned throughout the University 222 course. I learned a lot about Patrick, Brandon and Pablo, their goals, hopes, and expectations in college.
