As some of you may know, the Center for Community Engagement (dubbed the CCE) is nestled away in the corner of the library. We are often mistaken to be the Writing Center; our next door neighbors.

You can have the most rewarding and challenging experience of your life this next year being an AmeriCorps VISTA at Sonoma State University. I can honestly say I have while being an AmeriCorps VISTA for the past 8 months.

It's hard for me to believe that 10 years ago I moved cross country with two suitcases to begin my life here and open the Center for Community Engagement at SSU. I look back on the warm welcome I received when I got here knowing absolutely no one.

Service-learning gave me the confidence to know that I can be effective and make a difference in my community. I may not be the smartest student, but I make up for it with my determination and resilience.

It is with reflection and gratitude that I announce today is my last day as a student assistant in the Center for Community Engagement. I have gained so much as the Professional Social Media Development student assistant.

In my first semester teaching at Sonoma State, I had what turned out to be the great fortune of becoming involved in the School of Science and Technology's Freshman Year Experience, A Watershed Year.
