I attended a public workshop held by the City of Cotati regarding an open space called Veronda Falletti Ranch directly across from City Hall. The 4 acre area is mostly brush with a few large oak trees.

"[Service-learning] gives students the freedom to explore openly with hands on in a career of interest. For example, I volunteered in several elementary, middle school and also high school.

On November 1st, 2017, the community of Roseland was officially annexed into the City of Santa Rosa. Due to the fires, the celebration was postponed to January 20th, 2018.

The Center for Community Engagement along with more than a dozen community partners held the Post Fire Service & Internship Fair. A similar event occurred at the beginning of the semester but a host of issues facing the area exacerbated as a result of the fires.

While my class's first service-learning experience had a profound impact on most of my students, not all of my students "bought in" to the course goals completely until the service-learning project that followed.

Book Buddies turned out as one of the most enjoyable events I attended while interning with the CCE. I particularly liked witnessing the interactions between elementary school children and SSU students.


During senior seminar, I learned about incorporating personal fulfillment, success, and service into an all-encompassing life project. As an intern blogger for the CCE, I have been able to learn how service applies.

Mentor Me is a nonprofit organization that recognizes students who are struggling with academic success and challenges in their social life. Those challenges may include mental and behavioral health issues and challenges from family members such as unemployment, incarceration, and drug use.

Faculty and staff from SSU and other universities attended the service-learning workshop to learn the latest on resources, research and techniques on this pedagogy and how to incorporate it into curricula.
